SECURITY WAS tightened in all sensitive areas of the City on Wednesday including Kadavghat after sporadic violence erupted in North Toda on Tuesday.
Acting on cross-complaints lodged by the principal combatants, the police arrested 16 persons and registered cases against 300 unidentified on one complaint and arrested nine persons and registered cases against unknown number of unidentified persons.
According to the Central Kotwali police, a small dispute between two families led five persons to fight each other and as the area is communally sensitive and the feuding families from different communities the incident took religious overtones.
Acting on a complaint lodged by Vinod Bagri police registered cases against Shaqeel, Sajjan, Naushad, Aziz, Arif, Bunty, Bablu, Azad, Salim and Iqbal and hundreds of others under Sections 147, 148, 149, 323, 294 and 506 of the IPC.
Similarly, on a complaint by Gaffar they registered cases against Vinod, Shiv, Manoj, Prabhu, Santosh, Ganesh, Arjun, and Nanda Bai under the same Sections. Police arrested Nanda Bai, Rani Bai, Arjun, Ganesh, Ahhu, Shaqeel, Naushad, Shabber, Arif and some others and sent them to jail.
CSP Dhananjay Shah said that the Toda area becomes highly sensitive as it has people of both communities living in an area divided by a nullah into North and South Toda. Raoji Bazaar, Central Kotwali and Pandrinath police stations surround the area having a peculiar geographical position, which makes it a hotbed for crime due to the ease with which one can slip
from one jurisdiction to another.

Shah, who has had earlier experience of containing violence in the sensitive Kadavghat area, said that special precautions were taken and vigilance stepped up in that area following Tuesday’s tension.
There was even more reason for taking precautionary measures as the main accused in instigating the violence at Kadavghat and active member of the Dharma Raksha Samiti Jeetu Kushwaha had surrendered following police pressure on the same day. As the arrest followed by refusal of bail by magistrate who sent him to jail coincided with the violence in Toda, it lead to speculation of an eruption of violence here.
