Hollywood actor Tom Hanks is planning to turn rock band Green Day’s American Idiot album into a movie. The concept album, released in 2004, won a Grammy for Best Rock Album and has already been turned into a hit stage musical.

Now, the Philadelphia star and his Playtone partner want to put it on the big screen, reported Contactmusic. Playtone was the company behind hit Abba musical Mamma Mia! starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan.

The American Idiot stageshow opens at the St James Theatre on Broadway later this week after scoring sell outs and success in California.
