Police fired on a crowd protesting the Prophet Mohammad cartoons on Saturday in eastern Pakistan, injuring at least four people, police said.

The incident happened in Chaniot, a small city about 300 kilometers northeast of Multan, where hundreds of protesters gathered, residents said.

Mohammad Ishaq, an area police official, said officers fired on protesters trying to burn shops.
