Abid Hussain, a divisional commander of the largest indigenous terror group Hizbul Mujahideen, was killed in an encounter in Nagma Mohalla in the mountainous Doda district, Manohar Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, said.

The official claimed that with Abid's death, the police have largely succeeded in bringing an end to the terror business in the mountainous belt of the Jammu region.

Abid, who went by several code names like Zangram, N2 and Hayat, was reportedly a Pakistani national and was active as a terrorist commander for over a decade.

"He was responsible for a series of terror acts in the entire Doda district and the adjoining mountainous district of Udhampur," the official said.
