UNIDENTIFIED ASSAILANTS stabbed a timber merchant and his son to death in the latter’s Raqabganj residence and fled after leaving the house locked from outside.
The victims have been identified as Mohammad Hashim (65, timber merchant) and his son Asif (30).
The police came to know about the incident on Friday and claimed that the diseased had been attacked almost 24 hours ago.
The bodies bore stab wounds which indicated that the prime motive of the assailants was to ensure the killing of the father-son duo. The bodies were highly decomposed suggesting that the murder took place probably on Wednesday night.
However, the police were still groping in the dark to establish the exact motive of the killing even though jewellery, cash and two cellphones were found missing from the house. The almirahs in the room had been ransacked and belongings scattered by the assailants.
Soon after the incident came to light, local traders staged a road blockade on the Raqabganj crossing for over three hours.
was around 9.45 am when Hashim’s servant Babulal arrived at his house at Raqabganj crossing. Babulal smelt a foul play as he had found the lock on Thursday morning too and the house was still locked on Friday morning. Babulal immediately went to Hashim’s brother Haleem’s shop located adjacent to former’s house. Haleem’s shop is located in his house but he lives at Vikas Khand, Gomti Nagar. Haleem too went suspicious as his brother and nephew hardly had left the house together and they used to intimate him if anyone of them was going out of station. Haleem initially enquired the relatives if they were aware about Hashim’s whereabouts.As all feigned ignorance Haleem went upstairs and scaled the wall to enter Hashim’s house. He entered the house breaking open the doors of the terrace. Haleem raised an alarm as he saw Hashim and Asif lying dead in a pool of blood outside the room on the stairs of the II floor of the house.

{{/usCountry}}A pair of slippers was lying close to the body and it was confirmed later that it belongs to none of the deceased. The circumstantial evidence suggested that the victims had engaged in a scuffle before they were murdered. The television in the drawing room was still on and the receiver of the telephone was kept held. The boxes and almirahs kept in the storeroom were ransacked and the stale meal was lying on the dining table. It was later revealed that Hashim and his son Asif used to live alone in the house after the latter divorced his wife three years back. Hashim’s two daughters Shehzama and Nabila were married off to Gorakhpur and Dubai respectively. Hashim’s wife Wasima had died three years ago.
It was revealed that Hashim had properties worth crores at several places in the city. His timber shop and saw mill were located on the ground floor of his house.
A dharamshala was located in Musafirkhana.
