Torn and tattered — never seems to go out of fashion when it comes to denims. Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor pitched for it well through the 80s, followed by the Shah Rukh and Salman in the 90s. And today, a ripped jeans, is a must have for every style icon.

Actress Koena Mitra has gone a step ahead and torn her own jeans to be with the trend. She was recently spotted with her Turkish boyfriend Met Merral strutting around Mumbai in ripped denims. Says Koena, “Yes, I ripped my jeans on my own. Sanjay Dutt introduced it when I was really small and it never goes out of fashion.”

Deepika and Kareena both flaunted their ripped pairs while promoting their films Kambakkht Ishq and Love Aaj Kal. Akshay Kumar has been wearing to film promotions and on Khatron Ke Khiladi. And Salman sports it way too often to ignore. He even wore a pair to the Capital recently.

Designer Nikki Mahajan says, “I feel ripped jeans are not ripped aesthetically. It looks grungy. It is definitely a statement but hasn’t been done well.” Designer Puja Nayyar agrees that it is a trend these days, but feels “not everyone can carry them off.”
