Over 200 tourists were stranded on Wednesday as landslides triggered by torrential rains and flash floods disrupted surface communication at several points through Balipara-Tawang road, the lifeline of western Arunachal Pradesh and a vital link to border used by the army.
The Buddhist town of Tawang on the Sino-Indian border and Bomdila in West Kameng district remained cut off following massive landslides at several points.
According to reports from Tawang district administration, massive landslips at Munna Camp and Nine Mile area brought surface communication to a grinding halt. Over hundred vehicles carrying more than 700 people, including 200 tourists were stranded.
Gacham river in West Kameng district is flowing above the danger level. The micro hydel project at Nuranang is also affected as all its tunnels are clogged by the mud coming with flood water.
So is the case with Dirang hydel project. The upstream of the Tawang Chu river is flowing above danger mark and already three to four log bridges have been washed away by the gushing water.
