THE PLAN to run the toy train on the century-old Curzon Bridge suffered a setback following objections raised by Indian Railways.
According to sources, Indian Railways has pointed out that the bridge’s railway track could not be operated for toy train or any other vehicular movement.
Importantly, the authorities have also suggested not to allow use of renovated Curzon Bridge for four-wheelers considering its weak old structure.
Sources said that the Railway authorities have described their views to the Allahabad High Court. The court had asked the Railways to inform it regarding plying of toy rains on the bridge while hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by Anand Mohan, recently.
Notably, Allahabad Development Authority advised introducing a toy train on the Curzon Bridge as part of its beautification works. ADA even planned to use the same toy train that was lying unused in Nehru Park.
Sources said that Railway officials opined that it may be used by two-wheelers and pedestrians only. Considering its outdated infrastructure they were of the view that the bridge may be used for lighter vehicles.
It may be mentioned that the famous Curzon Bridge was re-opened after a long gap of 15 years in June. However, the basic facility of pavement has not been provided on the bridge causing inconvenience to pedestrians. Earlier, two feet height pavement was provided on both sides of the bridge for the convenience of pedestrians.

This time the bridge was opened only after the intervention of Allahabad High Court. If the pavement was not constructed on the both sides soon then pedestrians may fall victim of fast running light vehicles on the bridge.
