Tracing roots may be just a click of mouse away to the Non Resident Indians (NRIs) as the UP government proposes to focus on this scheme to attract more investment and promise all such facilities to NRIs at the three-day 'Pravasi Bharatiya' convention commencing at New Delhi from January 7, 2007.
The State Tourism department has decided to put up a kiosk under the “Trace Your Roots” programme to enable the NRIs know about areas of their origin, their villages and adjoining areas.
According to Principal Secretary Tourism Dr Om Prakash the NRI's would be given one form and state government would do the rest to trace roots of NRIs.
A scheme to take the NRIs on tour to the various tourists' spots was also being worked out, he said. Asked whether such efforts made earlier have yielded any results he said the state government had received one request recently.
The NRI however did not pursue the request, he said adding the state government hoped to attract investment in health and education sector from the NRIs.
Meanwhile a meeting presided over by the Chief Secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai was held to review arrangements to be made for the state government's participation at the NRI convention.
Chief Secretary asked the officers to ensure that the NRIs willing to invest were given all the information and help and their cases were dealt under the single table scheme.
The Executive Director Udyog Bandhu assured the chief secretary that arrangements were being made to provide all the information to the NRIs.
