The opening collections of first-time director Kunal Deshmukh’s Jannat were pretty upbeat. At some centres, the occupancy almost touched 90 per cent, which is very rare these days even for star-studded extravaganzas. Also, the evening shows in many multiplexes were house full.
Luck shines
According to the tradewallas, the credit for a good beginning can be ascribed to the film’s music and the timing of its release. With the IPL matches in full swing, the film’s theme (about bookies) blended with the season.
Considering the film’s medium-budget and its auspicious start, Jannat will make money for everyone associated with it. The Bhatts, who sold the film to Percept Pictures for distribution, had made money on the table, according to trade insiders.
After five flops in a row (Awarapan, Good Boy Bad Boy, Aggar, Dil Diya Hai and The Killer), Emraan Hashmi has finally scored a winner. Also, he seems to have proved that he can click without too many lip locks (this time, there was only a quick, shadowy one).
