EFFORTS TO establish ‘Vyapar Sangharsh Samiti’ as an effective body of traders suffered a setback when the bandh call given by it failed to evoke any response from the shop owners.
Even the shops near the historical Neem Tree in Chowk, where the office-bearers of the Samiti assembled and held a meeting to protest against the kidnapping of a contractor Neeraj Agarwal around six days back, remained open.
Later, a section of the traders associated with the ‘Vyapar Sangharsh Samiti’ gave a 48-hour notice to the district police to trace and free Neeraj Agarwal from the clutches of the kidnappers.
It is worth mentioning that a contractor Neeraj Agarwal was waylaid by some criminals near Gohania crossing in Ghoorpur who then abducted him along with his vehicle. Till date, cops have failed to find any leads to the kidnapping.
Upset over the crime and the failure of the cops, a body of traders ‘Vyapar Sangharsh Samiti’ gave a bandh call for Thursday and had claimed that it would result in a closure of many a major markets of the district.
This morning, traders associated with the ‘Vyapar Sangharsh Samiti’ gathered at the Neem Tree in Chowk and held a meeting that was attended by many big leaders of traders including Sumant Gupta, Om Prakash Jaiswal, Satish Kesarwani, Munna Bhai and Lalluram Gupta among others.

{{/usCountry}}Traders blamed cops for the lack of any headway in the case and all declared that a failure to rescue Neeraj Agarwal would result in a major agitation by the trader community. Speaking on the occasion, leaders of the movement alleged that businessmen and traders were unsafe under the Mulayam-led government.
They also alleged that the state government was failing to protect them despite earning a major share of revenue from them.
However, the protest more or less remained confined to the holding the public meetings as almost all the markets including Civil Lines, Katra and Chowk remained open in the city.
Meanwhile, the Prayag Vyapar Mandal, which had pulled out of the proposed strike, has decided to meet the CM on Friday and submit a memorandum to him in this regard.
A delegation of traders led by general secretary of Prayag Vyapar Mandal Vijay Arora will hand over the memorandum while the traders will assemble at the Balson crossing at 8 am and march towards the Parade Ground where the CM’s function is to be held.
