MEMBERS OF the Zila Yuva Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal staged a demonstration at the power sub-station in Maidagin area to protest against the grim power scenario in the city, here on Saturday.
The agitated traders were carrying lanterns, fans and torches to lodge their protest. Raising slogans such as ‘Bijli vibhag hai hai’ and ‘Vidyut katauti band karo’, the traders also took out a procession in Maidagin, Malviya Market, and locked the doors of the power sub-station.
Addressing the gathering, mandal president Ashok Yadav alleged traders were facing a tough time due to poor state of power scenario in the city. He said industries were on the verge of closure but the officials of the Power Department had turned a blind eye towards the issue.
Sanjay Keshari, Ajay Keshari, Mahesh Maheshwari, Pappu Srivastava and Abdul Hamid Ansari were among others who addressed the demonstration and demanded from the government to exempt Varanasi from night
rostering.
