City traders affected by the Supreme Court-ordered sealing drive have decided to meet all the Members of Parliament and request them to pressure the government for relief.
“We will meet all the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs on Sunday and Monday and try to explain to them the seriousness of the issue. Discussion on the sealing issue would be taken up in the Parliament on November 28 and we want all the MPs to pressure the government to make suitable arrangements till the Delhi Master Plan 2021 is enforced,” said Praveen Khandelwal, secretary general, Confederation of All India Traders.
Online registration of shops
Owners of small neighbourhood shops selling daily-need goods that have been exempted from the sealing drive by the Supreme Court would soon be able to register with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) without stepping out of their homes.
The MCD has come up with an online registration facility for shopkeepers, which is likely to become functional from next week. On Saturday, MCD Deputy Commissioner (IT) Vijay Singh gave a demonstration to the heads of all the 12 municipal zones on how the software works.
The MCD would soon be coming out with a public notice giving details of the URL and the procedure to register online. As per the orders of the Supreme Court, owners of small neighbourhood shops (not more than 20 square meters in size) dealing in 25 permissible categories of trades are required to register with the MCD by December 31, 2006.
Small shop owners on all roads have been allowed to continue with their trade, except in Category A and B colonies.
