THE TRAFFIC directorate was all set to send a proposal to the government for including traffic manual in the school syllabus here. Director (Traffic) Brijlal made the announcement while inaugurating the ‘traffic month’ in the city at Hazratganj crossing on Wednesday morning.
The directorate is observing the traffic month to create awareness among students and other citizens about the traffic norms and hazards of violating them.
Brijlal flagged off a motorcycle-rally of traffic policemen and addressed the traffic personnel in the presence of SSP GK Goswami, ASP Onkar Singh, RTO AK Pandey and other officials at the Hazratganj crossing.
Lucknow traffic police have identified 150 schools across the city where they would hold training workshops for the students during the month. They would demonstrate various equipment being used for better traffic management. The traffic officials would also apprise the students about traffic manual and tell them how to drive and walk safely on the roads.
Besides, the traffic personnel would motivate people to use helmet and the seat belt and avoid talking on cell phone while driving. The cops would also educate drivers of maxi cabs, city buses and tempos on traffic regulations and adhering to the instructions regarding permit for operating on certain routes. Bus and taxi drivers would also be told to halt for picking and dropping the passengers at designated stops only.
SP (West) Onkar Singh, who also has additional charge of SP Traffic, said they had identified various crossings in the city to paint Zebra line/stop line and installing ‘No Parking’ boards. They have formed separate teams to keep a close watch on those driving rashly or in drunken state and to initiate stern on-the-spot action against them. Singh further said the traffic police would also remove the roadside encroachments in certain areas in coordination with the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) and the local police.
