The traffic police, who have been actively taking steps to check accidents on the Expressway, challaned as many as 143 commuters. The squad was headed by DCP (traffic) Bharti Arora.

The police also advised violators not to change lanes and avoid accident-like situations for other people. Educating commuters on the lane driving system, the DCP said lanes were designed to suit different sizes of vehicles and not following rules could lead to accidents.

“This was essential as just challaning does not help. We educated them on lanes and their design etc. We hope that commuters will now act as per our advice,” added the DCP.

“The first and second lanes on the Expressway are meant for heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses. When small sized vehicles or two-wheelers trespass, it causes accidents,” he added. “Most of the accidents take place due to trespassing lanes by heavy and light vehicles. This is one reason that we have been taking precautions and deployed personnel to monitor the Expressway” added Arora.
