Traffic snarls have become one of the biggest problems for thousands of families that have moved into the fast growing colonies of Indirapuram, Vaishali, Kaushambi and Vasundhara in Ghazaiabad. The extent of the problem can be gauged from the fact that the district police chief himself says that even if 80% of the force is deployed, traffic management would still be impossible.

One of the major reasons for the congestion and jams is the growing number of vehicles.

The major congestion points run right through the heart of city at Mohan Nagar, river Hindon bridge, UP-border and areas near Indirapuram along the NH-24.

The Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) has proposed construction of foot-over bridges, flyovers, grade separators in the city. But the GDA is sceptical about the huge finances that would be required to carry out these plans.

Although, the Metro route has eased commuting woes, residents feel that more areas of the city should be covered.

Due to the heavy traffic on major roads, around 550 people lost their lives in accidents in 2010 while 426 were killed till September 2011.
