Traffic violations graph moves north

Despite strict actions against traffic offenders, the number of erring motorists is on the rise in Gurgaon. According to traffic police, in the first five months of this year a total of 969 motorists were fined for rash driving, while 939 were fined for riding vehicles without driving licence.

Despite strict actions against traffic offenders, the number of erring motorists is on the rise in Gurgaon. According to traffic police, in the first five months of this year a total of 969 motorists were fined for rash driving, while 939 were fined for riding vehicles without driving licence.

The revenue collected from fines slapped on erring motorists by the city traffic police between September 2010 and May this year have reached Rs3.18 crore, registering a remarkable increase from Rs1.93 crore collected during first eight months of 2010.

“The commuters should understand the importance of traffic rules. They can not only save their own lives but will also help us to manage smooth traffic in the city,” said a traffic police official. The official said the rising number of traffic violations also show that the department desperately need more manpower to control the situation.

In 2009, a total of 16,369 cases of driving without license were registered. The figure was 2,613 in the first quarter of 2010. A total of 7,576 accidents tool place in 2009 due to dangerous driving 9,846 cases were registered in the first quarter of 2010.
