According to reports reaching in Nagpur the divisional headquarters on Friday, the tragedy occurred when one of the trainees was taking bath in the river in the evening.

It was said that five trainee pilots of the institute had bunked their classes and were enjoying their time near the Bagh river. One of them, Vinay Gabbulal Singh (20) of Mumbai, expressed his wish to take a bath in the river. He entered the water but was soon stuck in the deep part of the river and could not swim back to the bank.

Seeing this Jainendra Singh (23) of Lucknow, tried to save him and in the attempt he too was drowned.

The Institute officials and the police inspector Santosh Kumbhare, along with the staff members immediately rushed to the spot after hearing the tragedy and started the rescue operation with the help of local fishermen. The bodies were recovered only on Friday morning.
