Training on fisheries technology inaugurated

A TRAINING programme on ?harvest and post harvest technology of fish?, being conducted by the Department of Applied Aquaculture of Barkatullah University in collaboration with the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, (CIFT) Cochin, was inaugurated today at the BU department.

A TRAINING programme on ‘harvest and post harvest technology of fish’, being conducted by the Department of Applied Aquaculture of Barkatullah University in collaboration with the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, (CIFT) Cochin, was inaugurated today at the BU department.

Joint Director of the CIFT, Dr KGR Nair was the chief guest at the inaugural function while vice-chancellor of BU Prof R S Sirohi presided. A team of 11 scientists from CIFT has arrived at the university to impart the training. On Monday, director of CIFT,

Dr K Devadasan also visited BU to inspect the facilities at the Department of Applied Aquaculture and also to meet the VC.

The purpose of the training programme is to impart knowledge to the students of fisheries science about the harvesting of fish, the crafts and gears used in fish harvesting, fish handling before processing, preservation and processing of fish for value addition.

Several value added products such as fish wafers, fish fingers, fish balls, fish cutlets, fish pickles, fish curry, fish powder soup and others could be prepared from dish which fetch high price for the producers.

The Department of Applied Aquaculture is the only department under the UGC stream to impart the course of M F Sc.
