OVERCOMING PHYSICAL handicap is not easy. A disability like polio is enough to break even the toughest of person.

Dr Saroj Dhingra’s story would perhaps be the rarest of rare tale where a young girl despite oddities takes the challenge of thriving on negativities and tastes success.
As a toddler she was a cause of worry for parents. Her disability in right leg due to Polio would force her to live an incomplete life, they thought.
However, today she is a Bharatnatyam dancer of repute. Indeed, she used the training of Bharatnatyam as a therapy and it did wonders for her. “The dance is based on yoga and I found myself recovering very fast. The journey started by chance has become a way of life for me now”, said Dr Dhingra. After establishing herself as a dancer, she also took to passing on the art form to youngsters. She runs two schools where hundreds of ‘complete’ kids learn the nuances of South Indian dance form. At present, she is working with North Central Zone Cultural Centre, Allahabad where she is working to propagate the classical dances and the concept of guru shishya parampara.
She has received several awards for her achievements.
