The new fare rate of buses, autos and other forms of public transport would be effective from December 1, Chowdhury told reporters.
He said the fare hike was unavoidable in the state as the central government increased the rate of fuel prices.
Despite the hike in fuel prices by the Centre 11 times in the past 18 months, the state government had not increased the rate in the state earlier, the minister said.
