Four years after Noida teenager Aarushi Talwar and her domestic help Hemraj were murdered in cold blood, a formal trial will start in the controversial double-murder case from May 11.
Special Judicial Magistrate Preeti Singh referred the case to the court of Ghaziabad Sessions Judge on Wednesday. The court upheld the CBI’s contention that the plea by Nupur and Rajesh Talwar — parents of Aarushi — demanding more case-related documents, was nothing but a delaying tactic.
SJM Singh said she does not have the requisite powers in the criminal procedure code to hold the trial in a murder case.
Earlier, rejecting the Talwars’ contention that they need more case-related documents, the CBI claimed that all papers had already been handed over to the dentist couple. Both Rajesh and Nupur, who were present during the hearing on Wednesday, were supplied copies of case-related documents on March 14 and April 30, respectively, the CBI claimed.
The Talwars had demanded several documents, including forensic reports, internet billing charts and session logs, call details of five mobile phones, statements of several witnesses under CrPC 161, narco-analysis reports of former suspects Krishna Thadarai and Raj Kumar and 23 photographs of the crime scene.

{{/usCountry}}The SJM’s order also stated that several documents could be allowed for inspection to the accused through court orders.
Nupur is presently lodged at Dasna jail since April 30 after she surrendered before the SJM court on April 27 on the directions by the Supreme Court. Rajesh is presently out on bail. The SJM court in February 2011 had taken cognisance of CBI’s report and issued summons to the couple.
