Adding to the problems of Apollo Hospital, accused of tampering with the medical records of Rahul Mahajan, a US-based global body for patient safety has asked the institute to explain various medical aspects of the case.
The Joint Commission International (JCI), which has certified the Apollo Hospital, is understood to have asked it to explain the test results of Rahul that drew adverse reactions despite the facility having high-quality and technologically advanced screening systems in place.
However, hospital sources termed the communication from JCI as "routine".
"It is an internal communication and it is a routine thing," a source said, adding that the global body asks them about different parameters from time to time.
In 2005, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organisations and Joint Commission Resources (JCR), well known for patient safety activities worldwide, announced the establishment of the Joint Commission International.
The World Health Organisation last year designated the JCI the world's first WHO Collaborating Centre dedicated to patient safety.
