Troubled by tendons, Tendulkar likely to miss out 2nd qualifier

Tendulkar, who injured his left hand while batting in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad 10 days ago, was found to have some swelling in the wrist and around one of the tendons.

Injury-hit Mumbai Indians are unlikely to get a respite ahead of the make-or-break Qualifier 2 in Kolkata on Friday. While pacer Dhawan Kulkarni has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament, batting ace Sachin Tendulkar's return before the end of the ongoing edition remains highly improbable.

Tendulkar, who injured his left hand while batting in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad 10 days ago, was found to have some swelling in the wrist and around one of the tendons, and was administered an injection by a specialist. Normally, the recovery time for such an injury is around three weeks. However, as per a release issued by the team, Tendulkar is "currently under rehab and is progressing well". "Rehab results in the past 9 days have shown reasonable improvements and we are hopeful to get him back in action as soon as possible," it added.

There is no such hope for Kulkarni, though. The release said the pacer, who sustained a side-strain during the match against Kings XI Punjab in Dharamshala on Saturday, "will take about six weeks to recover completely and has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament".
