Rao had met President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and some other senior leaders in the past few days over the issue.

“I have assurance from the top level that there will not be any delay in passing the bill,” Rao told HT at the Parliament building.

While the BJP is believed to have developed cold-feet on the issue of supporting the Congress to pass the bill, Rao pointed out that in Lok Sabha, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj had sought suspension of some anti-Telangana MPs for disrupting the House. “On March 24, 2012, Swaraj had suggested that the MPs should be suspended. It is in the record of the House. This time too, if such a situation arrives, the BJP must support every step that may be required to pass the bill.”
