A TRUCK carrying 1,800 poultry birds from Maharashtra was stopped at Khajuri on Sunday in view of the restriction of movement of poultry products owing to the bird flu menace. Surprisingly, the truck had not been spotted at the bordering districts of the State where the movement of poultry has been restricted due to the bird flu menace.
Even worse the consignment was coming from the area near Nandurbar in Maharashtra where the bird flu was first detected. The truck MP 04/G-0128 was on its way from Dhulia (Maharashtra) to Vidisha when the veterinary department informed the police and the truck was stopped near Phanda, according to Sub-Division Officer of Police (SDOP) Devendra Singh Rajput.
As the movement of poultry has been restricted from Maharashtra to certain districts of the State, officials swung into action soon.
The veterinary experts reached the spot and took samples of the bird. The results will be given on Monday and then the decision would be taken on whether the chicken would be culled or allowed to go.
The consignment of chicken was going to Vidisha from Sandal Poultry Farm. The police have not registered any case until now. Senior officials of the Veterinary department were not available for comments.
District Collector Sanjay Shukla said the truck has been stopped at the police station so that samples could be collected and checked before entry of birds into the City.
