Union Home Secretary GK Pillai will meet the chief secretaries of Nagaland and Manipur on Wednesday to discuss the steps to ease the blockade on the road connecting the two states.
"The blockade on NH 39 is a matter of serious concern to the Centre," a home ministry spokesman said.
Meanwhile, trucks carrying essential items began moving on National Highway 39 towards Manipur after a Naga students' body temporarily lifted the economic blockade from 6 pm on Tuesday.
But whether they can enter Manipur remains to be seen. The All-Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM) is still unbending on its resolution to continue the blockade that began on April 11.
ANSAM said in a statement: "… We have no other option but to continue the blockade … until the communal state government of Manipur comes to understand the issue rationally."
From Nagaland, Naga Students' Federation spokesperson A Kikon said: "We have, in response to appeals from the PM, other leaders and organisations across the Northeast, decided to ease the blockade from Tuesday evening. But we do not speak for our brothers in Manipur."
Dimapur district (in Nagaland) SP L Lotha said: "Trucks carrying a few essentials began moving from Assam to Nagaland after 6 pm."

NH39 shoots out of NH37 at Numaligarh in Assam, and heads eastwards to enter Dimapur. It then enters east towards Nagaland capital Kohima and then dips south to Manipur.
