Started by brothers Shivam and Shubham Srivastava, Godparents.in not only allows you to act as godparents to underprivileged kids in nine Indian cities, but it also lets you track their progress and ensure that your funds are actually being used for their benefit. Around 486 people have already signed up on the website.
"There are already many NGOs in the country doing good work for kids. We wanted to help them out and thought this was something that would eventually help the kids," says Shubam, who adds that they have tied up with 15 NGOs that are approved off by Credibility Alliance, who are considered the "CRISIL of the non-profit world".
Donors need to register on the website and the minimum donation is R 500. NGOs upload profiles of kids that are in need of funds. Donors can go through all the profiles and pick one that appeals to them. Alongside the profile is the tab that tells donors how much has already been contributed to the cause. Once the kid is chosen, the donor then begins to get details of the kid’s progress.

{{/usCountry}}“For example, if you have donated towards the child’s education, you will get his/her report after the exams. If you have donated towards medical expenses, you will get reports of the treatment,” says Shubham. The NGOs handle the uploading of the profiles and interactions with the child too can be arranged if the donor contacts the NGO.
And if the good karma wasn’t enough, contributions to all NGOs listed on Godparents.in are eligible for Tax Exemption u/s 80G of Income Tax Act in India. Do you really need any more convincing?
