IN A major turnabout in the issue of alleged ragging of juniors by four MBBS III students of Gandhi Medical College, a student, who was among those who filed an FIR with Koh-e-Fiza police, on Monday approached the MP Human Rights Commission and presented an affidavit claiming that he was forced by a group of seniors to file a false FIR.
The student’s affidavit said he and his classmates were severely ragged by seniors during his stay at the Block C hostel of GMC during last week of August. The student, Krishnapal Singh Parmar, has left the hostel and is staying with friends.
He said he and a classmate were asleep at a Dharmashala in old city on August 29 when some seniors arrived and took them forcibly to the Koh-e-Fiza police station, where he and five others were forced to file the false FIR against Lekhansh Shukla, Piyush Rai, Kulwir Singh Maggo and Mayank Karode. Parmar said he had not seen these four seniors before the incident.
GMC authorities suspended these four students on August 29 on the charges of ragging. These students later filed a counter FIR at Koh-e-Fiza police station saying that during the incident they were beaten up by another group of senior hostellers.
Parmar further claimed in the affidavit that he and other hosteller were subjected to physical torture including being slapped continuously. He was also paraded naked and subjected to economic exploitation, being forced to pay for various habits of seniors, including smoking. The first year students were also forced to wear particular set of clothes, not allowed use of mobiles and forced to do academic and personal work of seniors.

{{/usCountry}}Parmar reached the MPHRC office on Monday and met member Justice Narayan Singh Azad (retired). He demanded that the MPHRC initiate suitable action to curb inhuman ragging in GMC hostel and has also demanded personal protection as he fears reprisals from seniors.
MPHRC is learnt to have directed the college authorities to convene a meeting on September 20 wherein students and parents are also to be called and the matter resolved. It may be recalled that about 80 seniors (day scholars) of GMC had earlier approached the rights panel claiming they were not able to go to college for about 20 days due to hostlers’ threats. The students are still being forced to stay away as the authorities have failed to resolve the issue.
