The police have reportedly recovered the car in which the girl was driven back to her friend's place.

Denying that the 20-year-old German was raped, senior police officer Madhur Verma told mediapersons on Monday: “Despite keeping her in custody for over 10 hours, they couldn't rape her… We’re close to making arrests in the case which are expected anytime.”

He said the Scorpio used in the crime had also been identified by the police.

Of six, at least five of the accused belonged to Ambala, said Verma but he refused to divulge more information about the identified accused saying it could hamper the investigation.

Verma said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, who had come out of the hotel, had got friendly with the youth in the hotel parking.

The victim left for Delhi for her onward journey to Germany on Monday. Earlier in the day, she was taken to Ambala for identification of the accused.

Verma said the victim will visit Chandigarh as and when required in the case. The woman had come to the city to attend the wedding of one of her friends, an NRI settled in Germany.
