The two, identified as Tanvir Pathan and Zahir, both residents of Surat, were picked up following clues surfaced during the interrogation of the 10 arrested in the July 26 blast case.

Gujarat police chief P.C. Pande told a press conference that the police zeroed in on the duo after gathering tips in Surat and Vadodara, besides the information received from those arrested for the Ahmedabad blasts.

Pande also confirmed that the Ahmedabad blast accused did have a role in placing bombs in Surat, too. The prime accused in the Ahmedabad blasts Mufti Abu Bashar, Sajid Mansuri, Yunus and Samsuddin, were also involved in making bombs for Surat.

He said SIMI leader Safdar Nagori, who has been brought here from MP, is the brain behind the conspiracy.
