Thirteen passengers on board the Lichhavi Express were admitted to the SRN Hospital while eleven others were treated at the railway hospital here late last night after their limbs got brushed against a truck at an unmanned railway crossing between Jhusi and Ramnathpur railway stations on the outskirts of the city.

Several other passengers were discharged after first aid. The truck laden with bricks had just crossed the railway track when it broke down and could not be pushed to safety due to the heavy load.
With its body very close to the track several passengers hanging out and those with their limbs dangling outside the compartments were injured when the fast moving train crossed the unmanned level crossing around 8 pm on Thursday night.
As the injured cried in pain there was virtual chaos when the train stopped at the Rambagh station. Railway staff rushed with first aid to the injured passengers.
The station being small and not in a position to handle so many injured at a time it was decided to move the train to the Allahabad Junction Station where a number of railway doctors were ready with officials to provide medical aid to the injured and also shift them to the hospital.
The divisional railway manager and general mananger of the North Central Railway were present at platform No 7 when the train reached the junction.

However some passengers countered the claim of railway officials saying the truck had rammed into the passing train.
Chief public relations officer Bagish Pandey said , senior officials had rushed to the spot even after the area where the accident took place comes under NER. We had gone to attend the injured on humanitarian ground, he said when asked as to whether those injured would get compensation or not. This aspect will be looked into by the NER, he added.
Meanwhile, most of the injured admitted to the two hospitals were released today. Others will be released after the doctors allow them.
