TENSION GRIPPED Kotwali area in Mau district after two persons were injured when some unidentified youth threw a crude bomb on devotees at a shrine late last night.
The incident occurred at 9 pm on Thursday when some unidentified youth threw a crude bomb at the devotees at Malik Tahir Baba’s mazaar due to which two persons were injured, SP Mau MD Karndhar told Hindustan Times on phone.
He said senior police and civil officers rushed to the spot immediately and admitted the injured to a local hospital who were later discharged after first aid.
Karndhar said priest of the shrine had objected to some youth wandering on the shrine compound. It is believed that the same youth might have thrown the crude bomb while targeting the priest.
“However, the priest is unable to recognise the youth,” he said, adding, land dispute was also believed to another cause behind the attack.
Meanwhile, about 100 members of a particular community reached the mazaar this morning. However, security personnel was deployed as a precautionary measure.
District Magistrate Mau P Guruprasad said an FIR has been registered at Kotwali police station in this connection and investigation had started.
