Two injured in Manipur grenade blast

Two persons have been injured when militants exploded a powerful grenade at the private residence of Manipur parliamentary secretary and Congress MLA M Prithiviraj in interior Bishenpur district, the police said on Tuesday.

Two persons have been injured when militants exploded a powerful grenade at the private residence of Manipur parliamentary secretary and Congress MLA M Prithiviraj in interior Bishenpur district, the police said on Tuesday.

The militants exploded the grenade at his residence at Moirang area on Monday evening, injuring two of his supporters identified as L Nungshi Singh (75) and Shyamkesho Singh (55), the police said.

The injured were admitted to hospitals, the police said.

The MLA and his family were not present at the house at the time of the incident as he stays in his official residence in Imphal, the police said.

The motive behind the incident was not known, the police said.

The police would investigate whether it was related to any monetary demand made on the MLA by the militants.
