Two persons were killed, one of them in police firing, as the traders' bandh against the MCD's controversial sealing drive turned violent in many parts of the capital on Wednesday.
Police sources said a man was shot in police firing in Seelampur area of North-East Delhi, where traders fought pitched battles pelting stones and other missiles during most part of the day, injuring many including the area Deputy Commissioner of Police Devesh Shrivastav.
A seven-year-old boy also died, but it was not confirmed whether he was victim of police firing or in the bandh violence.
Rapid Action Force was deployed in several areas to bring the situation under control, but police resorted to firing teargas shells and lathi charge to disperse the crowd.
The areas where the protests were held looked like a battle zone with the mob damaging the police vehicles, DTC buses and metro trains.
Metro services were also affected in North-East Delhi after irate protestors hurled stones at a train in Shahdara.
As a precautionary measure, the Metro services were short-terminated at Shashtri Park station, avoiding the areas of Seelampur, Welcome and Shahdara, a DMRC official said.
"Stones were hurled at a Metro train in Shahdara, damaging its windowpanes," he said.
The bandh was called to protest MCD's sealing of unauthorised commercial establishments in residential areas despite the Centre allowing mixed land use.

"Stones were hurled at a Metro train in Shahdara, damaging its windowpanes," he said.
