Two killed in J&K grenade explosion

Terrorists hurled a grenade on a BSF vehicle near Chadoora Bridge, around 1130 hours.

Two persons were killed and seven others, including three security personnel injured, in a powerful grenade explosion triggered by terrorists in Badgam district on Thursday.

Terrorists hurled a grenade on a BSF vehicle near Chadoora Bridge, around 1130 hours, a police spokesman said.

He said nine persons, including three BSF jawans were injured in the explosion while two civilians -- Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh of Daulatpora-Chadoora and Mohammad Jabbar of Sultanpora area of Bihar succumbed to their injuries.

The condition of three injured persons including a BSF jawan was stated to be serious, the spokesman said adding police assisted by paramilitary forces have launched a hunt to nab the terrorists involved in the grenade attack.

No terrorist outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the grenade attack.

In another incident, the spokesman said some masked persons kidnapped a civilian after alighting him from a vehicle at Hangal-Booch in Anantnag district last night.

A resident of Yaripora village of Kulgam, the civilian was taken to an unknown destination by his abductors whose identity is being ascertained, he said adding efforts have also been launched to secure his safe release and bring the culprits to book.
