Two militants killed in encounter in Manipur

Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with Assam Rifles personnel in Imphal East district of Manipur on Saturday, police said.

Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with Assam Rifles personnel in Imphal East district of Manipur on Saturday, police said.Security personnel carried out a raid at Nongada area in the small hours on getting a tip-off that some militants were moving around.

As they stepped up combing operation, they were fired upon by militants and in the ensuing encounter two militants were gunned down by the security personnel.One AK-56 rifle, one 9mm pistol, one grenade and some rounds of ammunition were recovered from the spot, the police said.

Over 125 persons were so far killed in militancy-related crimes in Manipur this year.
