Two militants killed in encounter in Manipur

Sources said that Assam Rifles personnel of the 34th battalion had received information about some militants extorting money from the public at Molnom Kuki village.

Two militants of the People's United Liberation Front were killed in an encounter with the Assam Rifles in Thoubal district of Manipur on Thursday, official sources said.

Sources said that Assam Rifles personnel of the 34th battalion had received information about some militants extorting money from the public at Molnom Kuki village.

As the security personnel stepped up search operation, they were fired upon by PULF militants, sources said, adding that the 'chairman' of PULF finance section Basi Laskar and 'finance secretary' Shekhar were killed.

Some other PULF members reportedly escaped under cover of darkness, sources said, adding that two pistols, two hand-grenades, some rounds of ammunition and two mobile phone sets were recovered from the spot.
