Had Amjed-Al-Gozoly (23) kept his 6 pm appointment with his friend on the day of the blast at Pune, he would have been alive today.
Gozoly, a student from Sudan, died of his injuries on Saturday, making him the 12th victim of the Pune blast.
Bona Malul Atak, Gozoly’s classmate, said the two of them were at the university until 12 noon. “We decided to meet again at 6 pm for studies, as our exams were scheduled for Monday. I was waiting for him when I got the call, first about the blast, then about Gozoly,” Bona recalled.
Gozoly was an ace volleyball player who had participated in several volleyball and football competitions. His roommate Khatat Katab said these two sports were all he thought about, that he spent most of his evenings on the playground.
On the day of the blast, his passion for sports sent him towards German Bakery, where he went with Anas AlFaith, also a student from Sudan, and a football player. Both were injured in the blast.
Many of Pune’s Sudanese students came to see Gozoly’s body taken for postmortem to the Sassoon Hospital. Gozoly’s mother and sister came to Pune on Monday but did not go to the hospital as both were too traumatised – they stayed back at Gozoly’s rented flat in the Kondhva area.

{{/usCountry}}Gozoly’s friends handled the legal and other formalities. Officials from Sudan’s consulate came to Pune three days ago and met the Pune administration, requesting cooperation, which they have been promised.
A second-year science student at Wadia College, Gozoly was studying geology and was interested in the petroleum sector, said his classmate Atak. Prof Subhash Aher of Wadia College said he was sincere, regular and always ready to learn. Gozoly is survived by his mother, two older brothers and a sister.
