Joe Daniel, MP from Don Valley East awarded Joginder S Kalsi with a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal for his services as a film producer, community worker in Canada and for his philanthropic endeavours of establishing a library and computer center in rural Punjab.
Kalsi has been creatively active, socially vibrant, and philanthropically contributing ever since he moved to UK in 1961 and later to Toronto in 1974, Daniel noted. He has played a vital role to help build a better community by integrating his human values, culture, traditions, personal and professional expertise, the MP added.
Later, addressing the audience, Kalsi thanked his community for supporting him and attributed his award to his community which he humbly receives on their behalf. He thanked Daniel not only for recommending his name for the award but also personally doing the honour of presenting it.
At a separate event, Mississauga resident and Assistant Crown Attorney Sunita Malik was also presented a Diamond Jubilee medal by MPP Amrit Mangat to express the exceptional contributions made to the province and country.
Malik is a criminal lawyer, an Assistant Crown Attorney for Etobicoke region, a volunteer with the Canadian Association of South Asian Lawyers, the South Asian Women’s Centre, board of directors with India Rainbow of Peel, and a mentor of youth-at-risk at the Ontario Justice Education Network.
