Javed Iqbal Malik alias Abu Hurera, a resident of Kashriyan village, and Akhtar Hussain Lone alias Mubbasir, a resident of Malna village, were killed in a joint operation of the army and police in Wanipora area of the district Friday evening, an Indian Army spokesman said here.

Though their death was confirmed Friday evening, their bodies were recovered Saturday, he said.

The killings have dealt a severe blow to the terrorist outfit as the two were said to be the backbone of the group in the districts of Doda and Kishtwar in the northeast of Jammu.

Both terrorists were allegedly involved in threatening panchayat poll candidates and making extortion calls.

"The operation was conducted in a surgical manner with zero collateral damage by troops of 10 Rashtriya Rifles of Counter Insurgency Force along with police," the army spokesman said.
