Addressing a rally held in Central Mumbai on Friday, Thackeray had used undignified language while criticising Singh’s
performance.

Though a formal complaint was not lodged by any individual or the Congress, the election authorities took cognisance of Thackeray’s remarks.

“We have called for a CD of the speech and we are monitoring it. If anything objectionable is found appropriate action will be taken as per the model code of conduct,” said Kundan.

The remarks have evoked strong reaction from the Congress.

In Delhi, Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari condemned Thackeray’s statement.

“It is unfortunate that Thackeray used undignified language for the Prime Minister. Even his critics give respect to Singh,” said Mumbai Congress President Kripashankar Singh.

Shiv Sena, on the other hand, sought to justify Thackeray’s speech.

“The Thackeray langauage is like this and it is this language that has created Maharsrahtra,” Shiv Sena spokesman Sanjay Raut said.
