Congress Working Committee member Veerappa Moily on Saturday said he was confident the United Democratic Front (UDF) would return to power as it was fighting the Assembly poll on a positive agenda of development and social justice.

Addressing reporters in Thiruvananthapuram, Moily said the UDF alone could ensure the State's all-round development as evident during the last five years.

He said that in its reign, UDF has brought financial stability and industrial growth and solved the problems of backward communities and weaker sections.

Moily, in charge of Kerala, said unlike the Left Democratic Front, the UDF was fighting the election with unity and cohesion.

The electoral pact with the Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) was working well and there was no dissent in the Congress on the issue.

Denying that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was unhappy about the pact with the DIC(K), Moily said he (Chandy) had addressed campaign meetings for DIC(K) candidates in several constituencies and this showed he was not opposed to the poll pact with that party.

To a question, he said the minorities were still with the UDF and the support declared by the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and some other Muslim organisations to the LDF would not have any impact.

Their support to the LDF was only cosmetic in nature and the minorities were still with the UDF, Moily claimed.
