The online course in journalism launched recently by the University Grants Commission (UGC) has received an encouraging response from students across the country. About 450 students from 20 states have registered for the course, the first of its kind in the country.
Delhi tops the list with 70 applicants, a senior UGC official said. Sixty-six students have enrolled for the programme from Andhra Pradesh, followed by 35 from Assam, 30 from Tamil Nadu and 28 from Kerala.
The course is conducted by the Consortium of Education and Communication (CEC), an inter-university centre of the UGC for the electronic media. "We have got encouraging response from students. Different universities and various other institutes are contacting us to get their students registered for the course," CEC director Prof GD Sharma said.
The CEC has decided to make the programme available at the academic staff colleges of different universities in the country in addition to the 17 centres where the course is available at present.

“Now students can register at 17 different centres of the CEC where Edusat facility is available. We will also make the course available at universities with the satellite interactive terminals,” he added.
The online course, which was launched on August 7 this year, will have two major components — script writing and digital editing for television.
