Markets and educational institutes remained closed in Ujjain on Monday in response to a

bandh
called by National Students' Union of India (NSUI) in protest against the death of a professor after he was allegedly manhandled by a group of students.
NSUI and Youth Congress workers took out a rally amidst heavy police deployment, demanding immediate arrest of those involved in attacking Prof HS Sabharwal and his colleagues.
Shopkeepers downed their shutters and schools and colleges declared a holiday on Monday, while members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), alleged to be involved in the attack, also joined the bandh taking out small vehicle rallies, sources said.
Prof HS Sabharwal and his two colleagues were allegedly manhandled by a group of unruly students after they cancelled student's union elections at Madhav College on Aug 26.
The professor, a heart patient reportedly became unconscious after he was pushed and died later on.
No untoward incident was reported during the bandh, police said.
