Ujjawal?s directive for cleaner Ganga

STATE ENVIRONMENT Minister Ujjwal Raman Singh has directed the officials to release more water into the Ganga from Narora dam from January 25 and stop the flow of effluents from tanneries at Kanpur for two months. The directive was given with a view to make Ganga pollution-free during the Magh Mela.

He warned the officials concerned against any laxity in the matter otherwise stern action would be taken against them.

The minister’s media in-charge MM Dwivedi stated in a Press release that on the chief minister’s direction, Ujjwal would visit the Magh Mela area on Sunday and Monday to take stock of the arrangements made for the pilgrims and ‘Kalpavasis’ and submit a detailed report in this regard.

Ujjwal has warned the officials and contractors to undertake the mela work properly. Those found misusing funds would be put behind bars, he said.

The officials posted in the mela area have been advised to be courteous with the pilgrims and ‘Kalpavasis’ otherwise they would be shifted from there.The minister further said all facilities, including 24-hour power supply, would be provided in the mela area.

Ujjwal expressed anger over the delay in installing sufficient water taps and toilets in the mela area.
