"As India looks at finalising its integrated energy policy and we look at our own energy policy, we can jointly explore how to address issues of energy security, access and availability, affordability and pricing, efficiency and environmental concerns," UK's High Commissioner to India Michael Arthur said in New Delhi.

Inaugurating a workshop on "Alternate Fuels in India's Energy Future", Arthur said, India and UK can draw synergies between their long term goals detailed in their respective policy documents to realise a cost effective energy policy.

Noting that Britain had suggested a two-pronged approach for energy and climate security, Arthur said, "We need the support of countries such as India for a strong international agenda to promote more open and competitive markets."

He said both countries can cooperate in maintaining a market framework in the UK which is positive for investment and diversity of supplies.

Arthur said Britain strongly backed India's ambitions of "power for all" and the availability of affordable power for the whole population in order to meet basic livelihood needs.
