The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) renewed its pogrom against Biharis after a day’s break, killing 14 people in three incidents in the districts of Dibrugarh and Sivasagar on Sunday night. The attacks, which coincided with the visits of Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal and three Bihar ministers, took the toll since Friday night to 62.

According to Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner KK Dwivedi, suspected ULFA militants fired on houses belonging to Hindi-speaking people at Bharalipukhuri village under the Kakatibari police station around 8.30 pm. Seven people were killed and as many injured.

"The incident was preceded by an encounter between motorcycle-borne militants and the police at Sepon in Dibrugarh," Dwivedi told Hindustan Times. The militants had shot dead a Bihari labourer minutes earlier at a brick kiln nearby.

The same group of militants are believed to have attacked another brick kiln in the same area, killing one more and critically injuring two others.
