An ULFA militant was killed and two others managed to flee on Friday after an encounter with security forces in Assam's Barpeta district.

Acting on a tip-off that three ULFA militants had entered the area, the police and army personnel launched an operation in Bairagi in Pathacharkuchi police station this morning.

The security forces spotted three youths moving suspiciously on a motorcycle and asked them to stop but they opened fire to flee.
The security forces retaliated and one militant was killed while two others managed to flee. The police recovered a 9 mm pistol, an US-made grenade and several cartridges from the encounter site.
Intensive combing operations was undergoing in the area to nab the militants, sources added.
