ULFA woman cadre arrested on return from Myanmar

Security forces have apprehended a suspected woman ULFA cadre from Jorhat who claimed she was injured in crossfire between rival groups of the banned militant outfit in Myanmar.

Security forces have apprehended a suspected woman ULFA cadre from Jorhat who claimed she was injured in crossfire between rival groups of the banned militant outfit in Myanmar.

According to sources, a joint team of CRPF and state police apprehended Monika Konwar alias Arpita Gogoi on July 13.

The woman told interrogators that she was going to Jorhat to get her bullet injury treated which she suffered during a crossfire between two groups of ULFA cadres in Myanmar.

She said that the "28th battalion" of the banned militant group is in Myanmar, the sources said without elaborating.

The interrogation is continuing, they said.

Troops of the 119 battalion of the CRPF apprehended the woman from the outskirts of Jorhat near Teok as they were checking vehicles at a checkpost. The woman was on board a bus, they said.

The woman disclosed the information during her interrogation by state police and other security agencies, they said.
